Asahikawa City Hall / Pictorial Book

Asahikawa City Hall / Pictorial Book

The Asahikawa City general government building is highly regarded as one of Japan’s representative examples of modern architecture. This is a pictorial book containing an evaluation and history of the building, nicknamed “the red brick city hall”, over the 60 years since its completion, as well as its future. It was born from the enthusiasm of living architects hoping for the preservation and practical use of this storied building, which as of 2017 is being considered for demolition.
